Trying a new therapist

Trying a new therapist can be daunting, sometimes it can be helpful to ask these questions to a therapist to gauge whether they are the right fit:
"What type of therapeutic styles do you use?"
Different therapeutic styles suit different people - some people prefer talk therapy, whilst others prefer Art Therapy - it's all about finding the therapist that suits your needs
For example if you are looking for a therapist to help you process your trauma then you might potentially look for a therapist with trauma training, strengths based approach and person centred therapy
If cost is an issue you can ask - "Do you offer a sliding scale/ low cost affordable options?"
"Are you covered by the Mental Health Care plan" (the Mental Health Care plan allows you to access subsidised sessions with a psychologist or mental health accredited social worker)
If you are looking for a therapist that specialises in a certain field you can ask - "Do you have experience in XYZ?"
Asking different questions to a potential practitioner can help you gauge whether they are someone you want to work with.
Sometimes finding the right therapist takes time and its absolutely okay to try a few therapists to find the one that suits you and your needs.
